Incredible Debut for 16 Year Old Film Maker

Zombie films, tired of them yet? Yep it's getting that was for me too. To make a successful zombie movie these days you need something that sets it apart from the mountain of crap that's out there. More than just a gimmick, something that is really different about it.

How about this, a short film shot with the eye of a very capable film maker, cast, and crew. The movie itself is refreshingly original and oozes style. Sound good, now what if the director and much of the cast and crew were around the age of 16. Sounds impressive doesn't it. It was.

A few weeks ago an email showed up in my inbox, attached was an electronic press kit for a short zombie movie directed by a very
ambitious 16 year old from the UK, it's titled "We Are What We Eat."

I read the copy and looked at the pictures, it certainly looked like a professional production from the press kit. But really 16, come on. Then I followed the link to the actual movie.

Wow, just wow.

The enterprising filmmaker managed to put together a great production of a solid Horror Short. It's length clocks in around 10 minutes, not exactly the ideal length to tell a compelling story. But that's exactly what director Sam Toller does. In 2 days in July 2011, Sam and the crew would shoot a record 220 shots with 27 zombie extras in 6 locations. He not only pulled off this technical feet but managed to make a great Zombie film in the process.

A lot can be said about how talented this young film maker is, he pulled off what a lot of seasoned vets just don't. I'm not going to focus on how good Toller and company did for their age, what they produced is awesome on any filmmakers level. What I will say is I know with a freshman effort as good as this we can only expect amazing things from Director Toller, and his young cast and crew.
