Capsule Review: Venom (1982)

Venom
Director: Piers Haggard
Stars: Klaus Kinski, Oliver Reed, Nicol Williamson, Susan George

A young boy is held for ransom by his maid and butler but their plans go awry when they find out the boy accidently brought home a venomous Black Mamba.

I remember seeing this as a kid and being very frightened. It must have been childish fears because watching this now, the only feeling this film evokes is boredom.  This is a real a shame as the cast is a great ensemble and the story itself has a lot of potential.

Too bad the then incredibly hot Susan George doesn’t get nude, and Klaus Kinski only has one of his patented bat shit crazy freak-outs towards the end. This film was originally slated for direction by the very capable Tobe Hooper unfortunately the mostly European cast didn’t like the American horror director and he got the boot several weeks into production.

One can only wonder if this could have been a great thriller with edge of your seat tension, instead we’re left to wonder and have this stinker to watch in its place.

Buy it here.

Unfortenetly this is as naked as Susan George gets
