Auditory Boost

Hanna OST
The Chemical Brothers

Still haven't got around to watching the Blu Ray of this, but I've heard really good things. Expect a Blu Ray review soon. What prompted me to buy the sound track was a couple of songs I heard on satellite radio. What I heard from the album was the first few tracks. Not at all what I was expecting from a fast paced indie film. The songs were uplifting, with rhythmic beats that had you bopping your head to the music. The rest of the album plays like a really good film, with dramatic highs, deep lows, and smooth in-betweens. Great album. Rating | ****

Attack The Block OST
Basement Jaxx

All to often these days a sound track is merely an excuse to put together an album of top 40 crap that will hopefully sell well. The sound track for Attack the Block is different. The music composed by electronic artist Basement Jax plays as an important role in the movie as as the actors. Moody, slick, and right on cue these tunes help make the movie. As a stand alone album it's a great score to listen to, the music just sounds other-wordily. I'm really enjoying this one. Rating | *****

Run Lola Run OST

Classic sound track that had heavy but short play in European clubs. Pulled this out after watching the film about a week ago. Although it's a full length CD, it feels very short. A lot of the songs are very similar to one another in beat and sound. It doesn't help that the last half of the CD is just remixes of the first half. I still enjoyed it for what it was, and was surprised it held up well after quite a few years. Rating | ***

Extremis EP
Hal, Featuring Gillian Anderson

Funny how taste change over time. Back in the day I was a huge X-Phile when this was released I got it right away. I put the CD in the player and looped playback for hours. I really can't explain what I heard in this that made me such a fan. Listening to it today it's easy to see it's crap. Only thing I can think of is the fact that geek goddess Gillian Anderson sings in a down tempo, almost whisper that at the time ignited fantasies of sex on a flying saucer. How things have changed. The Best of Patty Duke: Just Party
Patty Duke

After listening to so much electronica I needed something different. I was browsing through file folders and found this. I'm a bubble gum music aficionado, I have tons of this type music on vinyl. The best was recorded between the mid fifties and sixties. Patty Duke's early stuff is a great example of this. You won't find any deep meanings or concepts, but instead a bunch of catchy jingles you'll find yourself humming way after you listened to the album. Great stuff, and easy to find online.
